Well, I have run into an interesting little bit of information. According to the CoE office, only Christine O’Donnell’s write-in tally will be available. For the other numbers, we will have to wait until the beginning of the next year. I have written back to the CoE to find out why this is, but have yet to receive a response. Once I get one, it will be posted here.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I didn’t realize that you were going out of your normal procedure for Christine. However, if the information for the other write-in candidates has been tallied with Christine’s and your office has that information would you be willing to provide at least the write-ins for Karen E. Peterson to me? A simple spreadsheet, as was provided to me by your receptionist of the Sussex county write-ins before they were made generally available, will be suitable.

If you wish to see the names of the other write-ins they should be available by the first of the year when we print the election results book.

That’s what I’m wondering. How can they tally for just one candidate? Conversely, if they are tallying all of the votes, why can’t I get that information if they have it?

Delaware code states that the write-in votes are to be announced once they are tallied.
(d) After the counting is completed, the clerks shall compare their tallies and add up the number of votes cast for each person in the presence of the inspector and judges. They shall then announce the names of the persons voted for and the total number of votes cast for each person. The 1st copy paper tape (with zero count certification) from each voting machine assigned to the election district shall be placed in the envelope and shall be delivered to the Prothonotary. (21 Del. The entire write in process we saw this year was a charade and those voters were “used”.
If abortion was really important to some folks what would happen today if Roe V Wade was overturned? The states would be free to impose restrictions to or outlaw abortion if the state legislature and Governor agreed. The effort for the write in campaign should have been focused on supporting the means to enact this sort of change.

I’m not sure what you mean here, Mike. Care to qualify that?
While I don’t think Roe V. Wade should ever be overturned, this argument has a little bit of merit. Christine had one trick, and preaching to the choir, she was able to get the churchies to the polls. She was able to get a remarkable number of volunteers for hand-outs, signs, and at the polling places. Considering that fact that she was only strong on one issue, that energy may have been better directed towards an effort against that one issue. However, it is not for me to decide how a person decides to best display their conviction.
Also, while I do think her crazier-than-a-football-bat energy could have been better focused, I don’t think that counts towards “using” her constituency.
