So, our next VP is going to be Delaware Senator Joe Biden. I still think a more suitable position for his experience would have been Secretary of State, but this is a good pick! Check out this vid that I saw on De Liberal.
I can’t help but wonder what this is going to mean for our little state. As I said last night to liberaleek, I would expect their hit count to skyrocket, but that’s small potatoes. I imagine every local DE campaign is calling Biden for an endorsement, but I wonder who will get it. Biden has sered in the senate for over 30 years, so is he going to go for the established John Carney? Or will he go with Jack Markell, who has taken up Obama’s call for change?
This has turned our local elections into a whole new game, as a Biden endorsement will carry heavy weight!
Today, we may be hearing who Obama’s VP pick will be. There will likely be discussion all day today here at Delaware Liberal.
I like Joe Biden. His command of foreign policy is unmatched among the potentials, he’s a fairly quick wit, and his ability to say something a little off-key would keep press coverage on the Obama campaign. After a great deal of consideration, the first reason is why I hope he won’t be the VP. Biden is Secretary of State all the way. Think about it, after the election, the VP has almost no real responsibility except as an advisor. What would Joe best advise on? Foreign policy.
Hillary Clinton would be the wisest choice. She’ll give the Obama Campaign a reputation for balls and backbone that, despite it’s strong words against McCain, it has not yet gotten. Clinton is a veteran of Washington clockwork, and will be able to foresee some of the obstacles that Obama won’t. Plainly speaking, her command of internal politics is something that Obama would be wise to learn from.
What else could be gained from a Clinton Vice Presidency? Yes, she adds a veteran perspective to Obama. I think a point that some aren’t seeing is that Obama can reignite in Clinton a bit of youth and idealism that her campign for presidecy sorely lacked. Not only that, Obama has Bill’s merits with strength of ethics that the first Clinton administration lacked. With that, maybe Clinton can secure the next Democratic Presidency. I would very much like to see the next 16 years of Obama, then Hillary Clinton leadership.
One of the laws of life that few people recognize is that we all have something to learn for every other person in this world. If Clinton and Obama can learn the good stuff from each other, I predict very good things for this country in the future: peace, prosperity, happiness, strength, diplomacy, respect both earned for us but also given by us.
Pick Hillary Clinton, Sen. Obama. Give the real idealists something to believe in!
Both Sen. Obama and Sen. McCain have shown startling ignorance and blind loyalty in their reactions to the conflict in South Ossetia.
Sen. Barack Obama delivered a statement from Hawaii about the worsening crisis in Georgia, declaring of Russia’s aggression in the former Soviet republic, “There is no possible justification for these attacks.”
No possible justification except for the fact that Georgia moved into the are first in strikes to clear the area of South Ossetian separatists. I guess since Georgia is an ally, we should ignore the fact that they have once again thumbed their nose at the fragile cease fire in the region. This kind of blind loyalty is completely irresponsible on the world stage, especially at a point where the world opinion of the U.S. is so low. Our politicians should be denigrating Georgia’s lack of political ethics and reconsidering our positive relationship with the hotheaded Sakaashvili.
Like Sen. John McCain, Obama called for “active international engagement” to address the dispute, “including a high-level and neutral international mediator, and a genuine international peacekeeping force — not simply Russian troops.”
Gutterball! The peacekeeping forces in South Ossetia was comprised of Russian, Georgian, and South Ossetian separatists. Either both candidates are completely retarded, or they have to make serious decisions about replacing their foreign policy consultants.
As a bonus, let’s take a look at the media, who made no effort to even report the fact that the conflict was initiated by Georgia in the first few days. How did they end this article about the candidates views on this horrible conflict?
[Obama] sketched out his plans at a 4,000-person rally on the first day:
“I’m going to get a plate lunch. I might go to Zippy’s. I might go to Rainbow Drive-In. I haven’t decided yet. Get some Zip Min. I’m going to go get some shave ice. I’m going to go body surfing at an undisclosed location. I’m going to see my tutu — my grandma — and I’m going to watch my girls play on the beach, and once in a while I might go into the water. But mostly I’m going to watch them.”
“Obama’s presence caused a stir everywhere he showed up,” the paper reported, but one prominent resident wasn’t impressed — Hawaii’s GOP Gov. Linda Lingle. “This is not ‘American Idol,’” the McCain supporter said of the choice facing voters this year, according to the article. “This is making an important decision on who should lead our nation.”
Just cutting journalism Washington Post! Bravo on giving this war the solemn journalism it deserves. Brav-O!
In response to the letter that I wrote about here, I’ve sent the following to the Obama campaign:
Subject: Do not bow to Bishop Council Nedd
Senator Obama,
I am a strong supporter of your campaign, and I am also an atheist. I have read in a recent article on CNS News that Bishop Council Nedd of the non-profit organization In God We Trust is urging you to denounce a billboard rented by the Freedom From Religion Foundation which states “Imagine No Religion”. While I understand that Mr. Nedd may strenuously disagree with this message as is his right, he crosses a line to inaccurate hyperbole when he describes it as hate speech.
These billboards are out there only to counter the message of the overwhelming number of billboards advocating a religious message with one simple request: Imagine a world where the conflicts of religion do not exist.
To cater to Mr. Nedds demand would show that mere opposition to a religious belief can be condemned as hate, and would strike a cowardly blow to the free exchange of ideas that is protected in our Bill of Rights. It would shake my considerable faith in you as a progressive agent of change, and send the message that you value the will of the conservative Christians more than you do the Constitution of the United States.
I would like to conclude by drawing your attention to an advertising campaign started by In God We Trust in reaction to the FFRFs billboards. They simply state, “Why do Atheists Hate America?” and, as they group together all atheists as hateful and unpatriotic, is a clear example of real hate speech. You can find information about this horrendous move here: http://www.ingodwetrustusa.org/atheists.html
Yes, we atheists want our views heard, but that is because of our love for this country, not in spite of it.
Thank you for the opportunity to contact you on this important issue.
Warm regards,
Joseph J. Madjeski

Yes, We Can!
CNS news reports that In God We Trust, an non-profit group that states that “Atheists hate America” and lists on its Outrages page such horrors as Charles Barkley having the gall to call conservative Christians “Fake Christians”, has sent a letter to presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama urging him to denounce a billboard in Denver that state “Imagine No Religion”.
You may remember my recent post on the Portland Obama rally that attracted over 70,000 people. A recent story on Newsbusters brings light to the fact that there was an extremely popular local band, the Decemberists, playing before the rally and questioned who was there to see the band rather than the charismatic candidate.
So, I did a little digging. I didn’t have to dig far (in fact, this is quoted in the Newsbusters article) to find that Obama is fairly popular with the Indie crowd.
Indie rock’s #1 candidate crush Barack Obama is sittin’ quite a bit prettier than he was a few weeks ago when the ArcadeFire and Bruce Springsteen went to bat for him, but the dashing junior Senator hasn’t quite clinched the Democratic party nomination yet. Next up on the primary agenda are Oregon and Kentucky, whose voters hit the polls Tuesday, May 20. Should Obama win a heaping majority of the delegates up for grabs that day, he’ll be within inches of securing the hotly-contested nom.
And look who’s arrived to give Obama the extra push he needs to get on the ballot in November. Why, it’s none other than those kings and queens of the month after, the Decemberists!
Shocking! An energetic young candidate who wants to fundamentally change discourse in our broken government? I can see how that would be Indie popular. However, also look at the last quoted line. It suggests that Obama was not quite following a popular rock band, but they were specifically there to play for the rally!
Points of Order:
* The Decemberists to play set at Barack Obama Rally SUNDAY
For those in the vicinity of Portland, Oregon this weekend, The Decemberists will play an hour-long set at a Rally with Barack Obama
So, we have a band that was opening for Obama, and really nothing in the Newsbusters article that provides evidence that anyone was there just for the band. In fact, they provide evidence to the contrary with the “candidate crust” quote.
One other important point: should this information have been provided by the mainstream media? Of course it should have! However, there is plenty of evidence that some news venues are more than willing to skew in Obama’s favor. As this election progresses, it becomes more and more evident that we can’t count on the MSM to report the news without skew anymore. That goes for the liberal and conservative media.
The primary happened what feels like a billion years ago, but we finally have the results of the caucuses.
Barack Obama cruised to victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton in Dallas County’s Senate district conventions Saturday, as Texas Democrats continued their arduous and sometimes frustrating process of choosing national convention delegates.
Mr. Obama had double-digit leads in all five of the county’s Senate districts, mirroring his electoral power here in the March 4 primary. (link)
Now, all we have to wait for is the final numbers, so we can see who got how many delegates. Is this getting tiresome to anyone else?
Spongebob, Patrick and Squidward in “Opposite Day”
Beth Miller and Mike Chalmers wrote an article for Sunday’s The News Journal about the large number of voters who were switching the party affiliation to Democrat. Since more than 4,000 people have changed their party affiliation in the last two months, chances are you know someone who has.
There are two main reasons given for the switch to the Democratic Party: the Delaware gubernatorial primary and George Bush.
John Clatworthy, a Republican, says that “this is about as bad of an environment as I’ve seen our party in the last 15 years.” Though I’ll give Clathworthy the benefit of the doubt that he actually liked the Gingrich Revolution of ‘94, I’d actually go back to the Summer of 1973 during the Congressional hearings about Watergate. I believe things are that dismal.
Sidebar: The News Journal identified John Clatworthy as a member of the Republican Party’s executive committee, but according to the Delaware GOP site, Clatworthy is not a member of the 2006-2008 Republican Executive Committee.
I believe Andrew Roos, Jack Markell’s campaign manager hit the nail on the head. He “believes much of the switch is a ‘hangover’ from the February visit of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama as well as the unpopularity of the Bush administration.” Though I wouldn’t describe the Obama Effect as a hangover, I do believe Obama is energizing a large number of people about the possibilities for the future of our county, something we haven’t seen since JFK and Reagan. (more…)
Barack Obama’s “A More Perfect Union” speech (video, text) has begun to settle in on America’s collective self-conscience, over 4 million people watched the speech live and over 2 million have watched the speech on youtube. Obama’s speech personifies to me what it means to be a leader, what is means to be a visionary and what it means to be President of the United States.
More specifically, what the speech exemplified was not his repudiation of Rev. Wright’s remarks, not his explanation for the hurt felt by blacks and not his explanation for the resentment felt by whites; it was Obama’s call for Americans to open a constructive discussion about race. This discussion is needed to begin to heal the wounds of the past with a hope for the future. (more…)
Get ready, I’m about to serve you up a giant plate of stupid with a frosty glass of ignorance. And profanity…. lots of profanity. This is from an interview that rapper DMX did for the hip-hop magazin, XXL. Enjoy!
Are you following the presidential race?
Not at all.
You’re not? You know there’s a Black guy running, Barack Obama and then there’s Hillary Clinton. His name is Barack?!
Barack Obama, yeah. Barack?!
Barack. What the fuck is a Barack?! Barack Obama. Where he from, Africa?
Yeah, his dad is from Kenya. Barack Obama?
Yeah. What the fuck?! That ain’t no fuckin’ name, yo. That ain’t that nigga’s name. You can’t be serious. Barack Obama. Get the fuck outta here.
You’re telling me you haven’t heard about him before. I ain’t really paying much attention.
I mean, it’s pretty big if a Black… Wow, Barack! The nigga’s name is Barack. Barack? Nigga named Barack Obama. What the fuck, man?! Is he serious? That ain’t his fuckin’ name. Ima tell this nigga when I see him, “Stop that bullshit. Stop that bullshit” [laughs] “That ain’t your fuckin’ name.” Your momma ain’t name you no damn Barack.
So you’re not following the race. You can’t vote right? Nope.
Is that why you’re not following it? No, because it’s just—it doesn’t matter. They’re gonna do what they’re gonna do. It doesn’t really make a difference. These are the last years.
But it would be pretty big if we had a first Black president. That would be huge. I mean, I guess…. What, they gon’ give a dog a bone? There you go. Ooh, we have a Black president now. They should’ve done that shit a long time ago, we wouldn’t be in the fuckin’ position we in now. With world war coming up right now. They done fucked this shit up then give it to the Black people, “Here you take it. Take my mess.”
Right, exactly. It’s all a fuckin’ setup. It’s all a setup. All fuckin’ bullshit. All bullshit. I don’t give a fuck about none of that.
We could have a female president also, Hillary Clinton. I mean, either way it doesn’t matter. I don’t care. No one person is directly affected by which president, you know, so what does it matter.
Yeah, but the country is. I guess. The president is a puppet anyway. The president don’t make no damn decisions.
The president…they don’t have that much authority basically? Nah, never.
But Bush pretty much… You think Bush is making fuckin’ decisions?
He did, yeah, he fucked up the country. He act like he making decisions. He could barely speak! He could barely fuckin’ speak!
Can’t be serious. He ain’t making no damn decisions.
Well Barack has a good chance of winning so that might be something. Good for him, good for him.
So, this would mark the first time that the term “nigga” was posted on my blog. I’m not sure how I feel about that.
